2011 Fall Wrap-Up
Thursday, January 05 2012 05:59

The Carroll Jazz Program has closed the book on a very eventful and exciting Fall semester! Students in the program performed at DMS and CMS for students during lunch, received clinics from notable jazz educators Rich DeRosa from UNT and Stockton Helbing from the Maynard Ferguson Big Band, and spent a great deal of time learning the fundamentals of improvisation.

The Jazz Orchestra was busy preparing their repertoire for their Essentially Ellington audition recording in January, acting as musical orchestra for Carroll Theatre's production of Beauty and the Beast, and working on a commission by Grammy-nominated composer Steve Wiest.

The Spring semester promises to be very exciting as well. The Jazz Orchestra will be recording their Essentially Ellington audition at Harbor House Studios in Keller on January 22nd, and will world-premiere Mr. Wiest's new piece at a concert on January 28th at White's Chapel UMC in Southlake. All three of the bands in the program will be participating in at least one of the area jazz festivals in March. March will also see the kickoff of Swing School 2012, and more information will be available about that soon.

Stay tuned for more updates about Carroll Jazz!
